Hey, my name is Axel JOURSON. I’m a young 31 years old guy from French Guiana, South America. I write this post because I know how overwhelming it can be to start your digital journey, without having a clue of what Digital Marketing is all about.
I presume it will notably help you understand what is Digital Marketing.
I wanted to write about this topic for a long time. But I wanted to make it very simple and as well as complete, easy to read as possible comprehensible.
So I decide to do it. Let’s get into it.
What is Digital Marketing?
Online marketing or digital marketing is an umbrella term for all the effort of taking advantage of the diverse internet channels to expand the message of your brand, products, or services, and to target your potential customers.
The method and techniques used for digital marketing include digital channels like a search engine (Google), social media, email, display advertising, search engine optimization, websites and many more.
The goal is to reach out to your potential buyers through the digital channels where they spend time reading, searching, socializing, or shopping.
Marketing has always been used to connect with your audience in the right place and at the right time. That means you need to meet them where they are already spending their time: on the Internet.
The Difference Between Online Marketing And Traditional Marketing.
Traditional marketing has historically included tools like impression, signboards, television and radio advertisements.
Before the emergence of digital marketing channels, the cost to market products or services was often highly expensive, and hard to measure.
Today, with an online business you can come in online marketing by creating a website, running advertisement campaigns and build an email list at low-cost.
This marketing is a low-priced effort to spread the word about your company that uses the Internet to reach people.
Basically, it’s anything that you do online to get more eyeballs on you, grab people’s attention, and at some point, get them to buy from you.
Why Digital Marketing Is Important To Grow?
You should already know that there are tons of different marketing channels and strategies to expand your business on Internet.
There are lots of reasons why Internet marketing is the best way to reach out to your customers, here are the most important:
1 Your customer is online
As a marketer, you should always attempt to reach out to potential customers where they live, where they work, where they shop, where they find out information, and where they distract themselves. The number of people who are using the internet to meet all of these needs on a daily basis is getting bigger year after year.
- Estimates say that consumers will make 95% of purchases online by 2040 (Nasdaq)
- 87% of shoppers today use e-commerce reviews to decide whether to buy, and 77% of those shoppers buy online (Business.com)
- 36% of small businesses don’t have a website (Clutch)
- 72% of e-commerce will take place on a mobile device by 2021 (Statista)
Both, Internet usage and e-commerce has grown. So the online shopping is here to stay. It’s clear that consumers are spending money online, and Internet marketing is the best practice to get your business in front of the customer’s eyes. All you need is to get some skills
2 It’s profitable
Getting your brand’s name in front of your potential customer can be expensive. The ROI (return-on-investment) for posting content and social media marketing is impossible to believe. It’s possible to make contact with thousands of customers, talk with industry influencers, and build a strong relationship with social media, blogs, etc.
By only advertising to people who are seriously looking for businesses like yours, you eliminate the cost of advertising to people who have no interest in what you offer.
Think about when you place an ad with traditional advertising (a local newspaper, or on television). You pay a fixed price to place your ad and pray for the best. Many people will have a chance to see your ad, that’s for sure.
But how many are actually in need of the products you sell? Possibly only a small amount of them.
Now, with online advertising, if you use pay-per-click, or PPC, you would have to pay when people actually click on your ad and they visited your website. With online advertisement, you can promote your page to cities, demographics, interests, then your targeting becomes more effective. Because only a specific market is targeting. This is one more reason why content marketing has a high ROI for small businesses.
4 Communication is key
With social media, you are able to ask your customers and clients directly what they think, about your product, the pricing, or the different updates. Reply to a Facebook comment is much more appealing than just filling a survey. With online marketing, you can offer a better sales support on the same platform.
Instead of advertising your business and simply try to sell them things, be a valuable source of information. Building these relationships increases the probability that they will return, and possibly be a customer.
5 THE DOORS ARE ALWAYS OPEN
How much would you have to pay someone to promote your company all day and night, including holidays and weekends?
You need something that’s always running and can be there when they need it. Websites, social media pages, and blogs accomplish this. They’re always available, they can always take your message, and your potential customers don’t have to wait until business hours to learn more about your business.
So Why Do You Need Digital Marketing?
Simply, because you can generate higher revenues at lower costs at any time of the day and even when you sleep. There are many reasons that make digital marketing much more valuable, but in today’s technological age, it is an ultimate necessity.
You need a combination of engagement, education, and selling to reach your customers. And only digital marketing can give you that.
